Our view of the service

We carried out this on-site announced assessment on 8 August 2024. We found the practice had not met all regulations. Although the practice had systems to manage risks, these were not always followed. Staff were working outside the scope of relevant qualifications, competence, skills and experience. Patients’ care and treatment was not always provided in line with current guidance. Improvement could be made to ensure effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. However, recruitment and infection control procedures reflected current legislation and guidance. At the time of our assessment, patients could access care, support and treatment when required and were treated with dignity and respect. The practice is in Birmingham and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. At the time of our assessment, the dental team included 5 locum dentists, 2 dental nurses, 1 trainee dental nurse, 2 locum dental therapists, 1 receptionist and 1 compliance manager. The practice has 2 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 2 dental nurses (1 of whom was also a joint owner of the practice), 1 trainee dental nurse and the compliance manager. The provider was not complying with regulations. Full details of the regulation the provider was not meeting are within the quality statement section of the report. In instances where CQC have decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded.

People's experience of this service

Two weeks before our visit, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We did not receive any feedback from patients. On the day of our visit, the practice was not open to patients. We were therefore unable to speak with patients. Staff routinely gathered feedback from patients, the public and external partners and demonstrated a commitment to acting on feedback.
