Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 21 June 2024

This responsive assessment was carried out to check if the service had made improvements since our last inspection. This assessment was carried out by one Assessor and two Inspectors. Assessment activity started on 8 July 2024 and ended on 20 August 2024. We carried out the site visit on 11 July 2024. We looked at 15 quality statements as part of this assessment. The Paddocks is a residential care home providing accommodation with personal care for up to 8 people living with a learning disability. At the time of this assessment, 7 people were living at the service. People living in the home have their own bedrooms and there are shared communal spaces, including lounges, a kitchen and a garden area. We found improvements had been made with sharing learning with staff members following incidents to minimise the risk of reoccurrence. We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it.

People's experience of the service

Updated 21 June 2024

The service was able to demonstrate how they were meeting the underpinning principles of Right support, Right care and Right culture. Right Support: People felt safe at the home. Staff knew how to support people. However, staff needed to complete further training to ensure they can perform their roles effectively. Some improvements were required to ensure safeguarding systems were robust. Care plans were in place for people, which set out how to meet their needs in a person-centred way. Right Care: Systems were in place to recruit staff safely. Medicines were being managed safely. Staff were deployed safely. Some parts of the kitchen needed improvements to minimise the spread of infections. Accidents and incidents were reviewed to see if any lessons could be learnt from them and discussed with staff. Staff were caring when supporting people and had a good relationship with them. Right culture: Quality assurance systems were in place. Feedback was sought from people, relatives and staff to ensure there was a culture of continuous improvement. Relatives and staff told us there was an open and positive culture at the service. People were supported to express their views.
