During an inspection looking at part of the service
We spoke with five people who used the service. They said they were happy with the care and treatment they were receiving. They said they could talk about any problems with their designated worker.
Staff we spoke with said the unit provided effective care and treatment which met people's complex needs. They discussed some of the changes which had improved the overall service. They said communication within the team and staff morale was much better.
Concerns were raised about the quality of food at the last inspection and again at this inspection. Although people who used the service and staff raised concerns with us they said the food had improved. The provider sent us detailed information which outlined a clear plan to address the problems with meals and reassured us the outstanding issues would be resolved.
People's needs were assessed and care and support was planned and delivered in line with their recommended care programme.

During a routine inspection
Concerns were raised by staff and people who used the service about the quality of food that was provided. The unit provided a range of therapies/activities to people who used the service as part of their treatment plan but we received feedback that these were not always available. It was difficult managing the mix of people who used the service which sometimes impacted on people who used the service.
People we spoke with said they felt safe and were given appropriate help and support to talk about any concerns they had. One person who used the service said, 'As soon as I arrived they made me feel safe.'
Staff we spoke with said they had received enough training to equip them with the right skills to do their job well. One member of staff said, 'Training is discussed regularly. They plan ahead and offer opportunities for us to develop.' People were made aware that they could raise concerns in various ways.
