Kindness, compassion and dignity
Staff genuinely cared for people. This was evident in the way they spoke of people. They showed an understanding of people’s fears and the need to build trust. Relatives were happy with the care provided. A relative told us, “Staff treat family and [person’s name] well. They keep privacy for [person’s name] and staff shut door for privacy.”
Staff expressed a kind, caring attitude. They told us, “I am really calm. I am very polite. I greet them. Before I ring the bell to let them know I’m there, I go and knock on the door and say, “It’s me, are you okay?” and, “When giving a bath we cover them. Some of them like to start themselves and I will go and check they are okay. We show dignity, respect and love.” Some people’s care plans recorded how they liked their care to be provided and gave good information to staff on how they should provide care in line with people’s needs. People’s preferences were recorded, their likes, dislikes and specific information relating to them as a person. This all helped staff get to know people and in turn provide care to them in an appropriate way.
