Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 11 February 2025. South Park Residential Home provides personal care and support to older people. At the time of our assessment there were 10 people residing at the care home. We undertook this responsive assessment to check the provider had followed their action plan and improved since their last inspection when we found they were in breach of regulations. This unannounced, onsite assessment was conducted by 2 Adult Social Care inspectors who reviewed all 22 quality statements related to the 3 key questions, Is the service safe, responsive and well-led? For those key questions not inspected, we used the ratings awarded at their last inspection to calculate the overall rating. At this assessment we found the service had made improvements and was no longer in breach of regulations. Fire safety arrangements had been improved and risks posed by the care homes environment had now been mitigated. The care homes interior had also been completely refurbished and redecorated. This ensured the care home was a safe and far more comfortable place for people to live where no one had to share a bedroom. Furthermore, the new registered manager had the knowledge and skills to effectively lead, which they did with integrity and openness. The service now had clear lines of responsibilities, roles, systems of accountability and operated their governance systems effectively. The service supported people to stay safe. Staff understood people’s rights and how these should be met. Staff recruitment practices were safe. There were enough staff with the right levels of knowledge, skills, and experience to safely meet people’s needs and understand their roles and responsibilities. The service supported staff wellbeing. Medicines and infection control were managed safely. People received care centred on them and their individual needs including those related to their protected equality characteristics.

People's experience of this service

During this assessment we received feedback about the home from 5 people living at there, 2 relatives and 4 external health and social care professionals.

People were positive about the quality of the care they received at the care home. People said they felt safe and were happy living there. Relatives confirmed this and told us their family members who lived at the care home were well looked after and care for there. Typical feedback included, “This is a fantastic place to be. Pleasant staff and lovely food,” “Staff look after my [family member] very well and often go above and beyond. My [family member] always mentions how happy they are living at the home and how much they love the staff. They’re all amazing” and “From my own observations, people always appear happy living at the home and I have no issues with them.” People were complimentary about the way the care home was now being run by the new registered manager , and how accessible and approachable they were. People expressed being happy with the progress made by the new registered manager and the owner to improve the care home in the last 12 months. For example, people said they liked the refurbishment work they had completed to improve the interior design and décor of the care home, which made it a far more comfortable and pleasant place to live. There was an open, friendly and welcoming culture at the service people described as a ‘homely.’ External health and social care professionals were equally complimentary about the care home. One told us, “During my visits, people look happy and engaged. Feedback is always positive from people and many expressed being pleased with all the improvements the new registered manager has recently made to the home.” Some people could not directly tell us about their experience. We used a structured observation tool to assess whether they received good care. This approach showed people were included and listened to and staff consistently interacted positively with them.
