People received personalised care which focused on their well-being and individual needs. The registered manager and staff took action to reduce the risk of discrimination and inequalities within the service by creating opportunities for people to continue with their personal needs and beliefs. This included promoting people's access to their local community.

People confirmed staff helped them understand their care and support and overcome barriers. One person openly discussed how the staff worked with them to create small targets to help improve their mobility and independence. They told us, "I've gone from being supervised to unsupervised with no falls." They told us staff treated them with respect and made reasonable adjustments to ensure people’s needs and wishes were met. One person told us, "‘You can lead the kind of life that you want here. They [staff] like to know that you are happy." People told us they were supported to access the local community, including local religious groups.

The registered manager and staff provided several examples of how they supported people with their protective characteristics and how they supported people to meet their goals. The registered manager and staff discussed a positive culture which supported people to be actively involved in the home and in the community, to support them with their personal interests, cultural and religious needs. The service had formed good links with the local community and engaged with community groups to break down barriers and promote people's social and cultural needs and widen their experiences.

The registered manager and provider had ensured their processes and policies were underpinned by relevant human rights and equity law and best based practices. Reasonable adjustments were made to ensure people’s views about the care they received, and their preferences were listened to and acted on. Staff worked with relevant stakeholders and professionals to ensure people received additional support in a timely manner.
