Meadowcroft is a care home that can provide nursing and personal care for up to 64 people. At the time of our inspection, 61 older people lived there. The home was built over two floors with four separate units, offering nursing care on the ground floor and dementia care on the first. This was the home's first on-site assessment since its registration on 24 January 2023, conducted unannounced on 24 and 25 July 2024 by an inspector, two assessors, and a regulatory coordinator. We reviewed all five key questions and associated quality statements, finding no evidence of harm but identifying issues needing attention. These included 2 regulatory breaches: unsafe management of medicines and ineffective oversight systems. We also identified concerns around staff supervision as they were not taking place regularly. Despite these concerns, the new manager was aware of the needed improvements and had begun addressing them. Staff and managers understood their safeguarding duties, and staffing levels were adequate, with thorough pre-employment checks and relevant training provided. The care home was clean, safe, and well-adapted. Staff understood people's specific needs and preferences, with person-centred care plans regularly updated. People were supported in meaningful activities, and their health and well-being were maintained. There was clear understanding of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), used only in people's best interests. Staff treated people using the service with respect, dignity, and compassion, supporting their independence and upholding their human rights. The provider worked closely with external professionals to deliver comprehensive care.
