Safeguarding

People were seen to be relaxed and comfortable. We observed staff supporting people safely.

Staff had received training in safeguarding and demonstrated an awareness of reporting suspected harm or abuse. A staff member said, "I would report anything that could leave a person at risk of harm if they are vulnerable." Another staff member told us, "I would report instances where I felt a service user was at risk, either from members of the public, another service user in the home, or even from staff."

People told us they felt safe and would raise any concerns they had with staff and the registered manager.

The provider had clear systems and processes in place to enable staff and leaders to safeguard people from harm or abuse. Safeguarding referrals were made to the appropriate professionals, where required, and action was taken as a result of any safeguarding concerns to ensure people were protected.

Safe environments

Staff told us they had completed training in fire safety and were given responsibilities in ensuring the home remained safe for people and staff. A staff member said, "We [staff] complete weekly fire tests, where all fire alarms, smoke alarms, Co2, fire exits and emergency lighting are checked. I myself have completed these on multiple occasions."

The home was maintained to ensure the safety of people and staff, however, we found some areas of the home required some refurbishment. The registered manager was in regular contact with the landlord of the property to highlight areas for improvement such as repairs or refurbishment.

People told us they felt safe in their home environment. The service had introduced external safety cameras to the property and daily security checks undertaken by staff to ensure people living at the service were safe.

The provider had systems and processes in place to ensure health and safety requirements were met. Checks and audits were undertaken regularly.
