During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this announced on-site assessment on 15 November 2024. We found the practice had met all regulations. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and infection control procedures were in place. The practice had systems to manage risks. Orthoclinic is in Borehamwood in Hertfordshire and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces, including dedicated parking for disabled people, were available near the practice. The practice had 3 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with one of the principal dentists, 1 dental nurse, 1 orthodontic therapist, 1 receptionist and the practice manager.

5 February 2013

During a routine inspection

During our visit to the service there were no patients available to speak with. We noted that people had been regularly asked for their views and had added the following additional comments to the questionnaires completed in December 2012 and January 2013; 'A superb practice. Have been extremely pleased', 'very good service', 'Excellent standards across all staff. Would recommend', 'Very professional service all round. Confident in the staff and work carried out'.

We noted that clear information about the services available at the Orthoclinic and cost of National Health Service and private treatments were available.

We noted that clear records of the treatment options discussed with people and a schedule of planned treatments were available for the people who had been treated at the practice.

We observed that there were up to date infection prevention and control systems in place that ensured that the dental equipment, treatment areas and premises had been appropriately sterilised and cleaned before patients were treated.

There were clear child and adult protection procedures in place for staff to follow should they be concerned about the care of young people or vulnerable adults.

We noted that staff had been given the regular opportunities they needed to update their practice and keep up to date.

We observed that the practice was well managed and organised with clear processes in place to review and audit the quality of the service provided.
