Our view of the service
We carried out this on-site announced assessment on 23 May 2024. We found the practice had not met all regulations. The practice could improve systems to manage risks. In particular, risks associated with fire and legionella. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation. Infection control procedures followed published guidance. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance. Patients were treated with dignity and respect. At the time of our assessment, patients could access care, support and treatment when required. Improvements could be made to leadership and oversight to ensure a culture of continuous improvement is embedded. Claremont Dental Surgery - Wigan provides private dental care and treatment for adults and children. The practice also provides NHS orthodontic care for children. At the time of our assessment, the dental team included 4 dentists, 6 qualified dental nurses, a trainee dental nurse, a receptionist and the practice manager. The practice had 5 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 4 dentists, 3 dental nurses and the practice manager. We identified regulations the provider was not complying with. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
People's experience of this service
Prior to our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. Comments included: “Excellent and professional. Always the best treatment given and advice about keeping my teeth and mouth as healthy as possible”. On the day of inspection, we received feedback from 10 patients. Their responses and additional patient feedback we reviewed provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice. The provider gathered feedback from staff through informal discussions. The practice did not have regular staff meetings. Staff gathered feedback from patients. Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness. People expressed that they were happy with their care.
