Our view of the service
Lulworth is a residential care home providing accommodation with personal care for up to 16 people. The service provides care to older and younger people, people with dementia, and people with a physical disability. We carried out our on-site assessment on 25 January 2024. At the time of our inspection 16 people were residing at the service. An assessment has been undertaken of a specialist service that is used by autistic people or people with a learning disability. We expect health and social care providers to guarantee autistic people and people with a learning disability respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it.’ We looked at seven quality statements within the 4 key questions of safe, effective, caring and well led.
People's experience of this service
The model of care and setting maximised people’s choice, control and independence. Care was person-centred and promoted people’s dignity, privacy and human rights. The ethos, values, attitudes and behaviours of leaders and care staff ensured people using the service lead confident, inclusive and empowered lives. People received the correct support which helped them maintain the independence and learn new life skills. One person told us, “Food is nice, I like it here.” I used to live at another place but feel safe here. Staff help if I am upset and with lots of things.” Another person said, “I have enough to do, I go out for walks. People told us there were enough suitably trained staff and they new them well. One person told us, “I like the staff, they are funny but they look out for me.”
