Equity in experiences and outcomes
People were encouraged to create friendships. One person told us, “I have a friend who lives in another part of the country. We speak every day on facetime but the signal is a bit rubbish sometimes!”. Lulworth made good use of advocates to help with aspects of people’s care, ensuring barriers were tackled in respect of access to specific support. People enjoyed the cinema room and we observed a really nice atmosphere whilst people were enjoying a film.
Staff were all trained and understood the importance of Equality of care and everyone's entitlement to human rights. Care plans ensured there was opportunities to review an monitor individual outcomes. Barriers were clearly identified and ways to overcome them explored and documented.
Staff told us that “It’s not our home, it’s theirs”. Staff wanted to make sure that people are not disadvantaged by their health and/or communication needs. It was important to them that everyone at Lulworth was equal and had the same or similar experiences. Reasonable adjustments were made to ensure people could access different activities throughout the day.
