The provider’s support planning processes enabled staff to provide person-centred care and support to people which protected their rights. People’s care and support records were detailed and tailored to their individual needs, preferences and choices. Staff knew how to implement those plans effectively and supported people to have fulfilled lives and to express themselves. Adjustments were made to people’s support when needed to enable them to have equal access and opportunities, for example, to go out, to receive healthcare support or to gain employment or education.

People’s relatives told us staff supported their loved ones to ensure they had equal access, opportunities and to achieve good personal outcomes. Relatives told us about the opportunities created for individual people and also commented, “[Staff] listen” and “[Person] seems happy there.”

Staff had a good understanding of how to support people to feel valued, empowered and to have their rights protected. Staff said, “[People] are actively encouraged to speak up”, “Staff are encouraged to take photos. The idea being they will have a social story to reflect on with people. We had training to do this and have learned to modify the length of sentences and we have adapted a lot of things in to an easy read to give people greater access to materials for and about them”, “I like helping people and I want to be a support worker. I love it. It’s about building positive relationships and treating people equally, being supportive” and “We will make sure they have access to [healthcare services].”
