People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice.

Independence, choice and control

Most people told us their care and support plans were developed with them. People said they were involved in any changes. Positive feedback was received about living as an individual and making choices. For example, one family member said, “They always listen to him and never force him to do anything he doesn’t want to do. He is very pleased with them.”

Staff were asked about delivering person centred care and were able to explain how they ensured people were given choice and control. Staff gave examples of person centred care and how they aimed to achieve the best outcomes for people. One staff member told us, "All our care is person centred and is tailored for the individual. We acknowledge that people have different opinions and care needs.”

There were systems and process to ensure people’s care plans were inclusive of people’s choice, preference and information important to them. Further ongoing processes assured care plans were regularly reviewed and updated as people's needs changed. People were able to give continual feedback to the service.
