Caring
People received care and support from staff who knew them well and had a kind, caring and respectful approach which maintained people’s dignity and independence. People were supported to maintain relationships with those close to them and in the local community. One person told us, “I would recommend this to anyone. I’m asked if I want a bath or shower I get clean clothes on every day and the staff listen to what I want”.

Independence, choice and control
People we spoke with told us they were encouraged to be as independent as possible and their rights and choices were upheld. People were supported to make decisions about how their care needs were met. One person told us, “The staff are lovely anything you ask for they give you they are really nice. I cant knock anything, I cant praise them enough” One relative we spoke with said, “I am able to bring the dog in to see her and the staff will support her with things she wants to do."
Staff understood people had the right to have choice and control over how their care needs were met. encouraged individuals to make choices for themselves. Every staff we spoke with were able to give us positive suggestions for if someone was to refuse care or support. One staff told us, "Just walk away for a little while, one person does refuse - sometimes the night staff can encourage them to have a bath and they might get themselves ready. We ask them again later or the next day, it doesn't matter when it happens."
We saw people were treated with dignity and respect by all staff working at the service. Staff also knew people well and the atmosphere in the service was warm and welcoming. We spoke with a visiting hair dresser who told us, "“The residents seem happy, the home is always clean and tidy, there’s always someone around to ask for help. If I had any concerns I would just come out with it but everyone is friendly and helpful."
Systems and processes were in place to ensure the service delivered person-centred care where people had choice and control over how staff met their needs. Staff had ensured care plans contained pertinent information about people’s needs and preferences to enable staff to provide appropriate care. Staff used person-centred planning tools and approaches to discuss and plan with people how to reach their goals and aspirations.
