Effective
People were given care and support from staff who were well trained. The service liaised closely with healthcare professionals and a visiting community health professional told us, "The staff work with us well and follow any plans we make." People were supported to recover their skills and independence with community heath support enabling them to return home following a fall or illness. One person we spoke with said, “When I was in hospital I was using a hoist and since I have been here the physio has been in a few times a week and I am now walking again with a frame”. We observed mealtimes were calm and people were supported to have their nutritional needs met.

Delivering evidence-based care and treatment
People we spoke with said they were supported by a range of professionals and the service to improve their health and wellbeing. One relative also said they were kept well informed about their family member. One relative said, "When she first came she was downstairs and they kept us up to date and they would get people in to explain as things changed." People also told us they were involved in their assessment and care plans. We observed a mealtime and saw it was calm and people were encouraged by staff with choice and not being rushed. One person said, “I’m a fussy eater but I’ve put weight on and that a good thing," and “I can’t pick faults with the food nothings to much trouble for them. They always ask if anybody wants any more."
Staff we spoke with were knowledgeable about people's needs and told us they enjoyed good working relationships with other healthcare professionals. We were speaking with one of the senior carers regarding how they supported people if they were unwell. They said, "I would discuss with the community matron, I always check that first. We have a good relationship with Norton Medical Centre and with prescribers and matrons they are good and we work together well." Staff confirmed they had the skills and knowledge to carry out their role effectively. Staff completed training in relevant areas to ensure they could carry out their role safely and competently. Staff supervisions were being completed in line with the company policies and expectations. One staff member told us, "We can get involved in care planning, we discuss with the seniors and they do ask us about changes. We also get families involved and GP's if needed. We do surveys with people to find out what they like do, this is all the time as well as when they first come in."
The provider had developed systems to ensure the right staff skill mixes were available to meet people's needs. They were investing in staff development to provide a progressive and expert workforce. We spoke with a visiting advocate to the home who told us, "Any concerns that I feel needs addressing through such as weight loss, is addressed immediately, and appropriately. "
