Safe and effective staffing
We observed staff responding to people’s needs in a timely manner. Call bells were answered promptly and people were supported to use the bathroom when needed.
The registered manager was supported by a deputy manager and a regional manager. Staff told us they felt there were enough staff on shift to keep people safe. They told us the Registered Manager had increased the number of staff during the night for them to be able to meet people’s needs. Staff felt they received enough training. One staff member told us, “I am an acting senior I have completed my NVQ3 and now would like to do my NVQ4.” Another staff member told us, “We have face to face training and online training. I prefer face to face it gives you chance to ask questions.” The registered manager told us they were fully staffed and only used agency staff during sickness or for people’s 1:1 hours. There were enough staff to meet people’s needs. Staff had received training to enable them to have the skills and knowledge to support people. Staff told us they had regular supervisions when their training needs were discussed. There was induction process for new staff. Records showed that staff had received training appropriate to their job role.
