Our view of the service
Prince Alfred is a residential care service that provides accommodation and personal care for up to 50 people. It accommodates people across two floors, each of which has separate facilities. At the time of our inspection there were 36 people living at the home. At our last inspection the service was rated good. We initiated this assessment of the service on 2 May 2024. The assessment was prompted by a review of information we held about the service. Following the assessment the service has remained good. We found good practice in relation to risk management and safe and effective staffing. The environment was safe for people to live and there was a learning culture amongst staff and leaders. Safeguarding processes were in place and staff fed back they understood how to keep people safe from harm. Governance systems were robust, and staff felt they could freely raise concerns and be listened to.

A relative told us "I have never ever felt worried or anxious about [family member] being here- she was totally 100% looked after by the staff- amazing." People told us they felt the home was a nice place to live and they liked the environment. One person said “The home is cleaned up all the time, everyday they are cleaning and hoovering up. It is all day everyday. If something is dropped or spilled it is cleaned up quickly.” People told us they felt there was enough staff on duty to be able to support them safely. One person said “I feel there is always enough people here to help. I get my medication on time.” People told us they felt staff listened to them and made positive changes in response to their feedback, which demonstrated a learning culture at the home.
