Governance, management and sustainability
At the assessment on 8 November 2024 we found the practice had made the following improvements to comply with regulation 17 Good governance:
Mandatory inspections and routine servicing had been carried out to the compressor and the X-ray equipment. All relevant information required for a radiation protection file was available ad up to date. NHS prescriptions were now monitored to prevent fraudulent misuse. They were stored securely, and systems were in place to enable the practice to identify if any were missing. Improvements had been made in relation to the quality of dental care records. We looked at 4 patient care records. The information recorded in these patient care records was in line with recognised guidance. Records of discussions including risks and treatment options were discussed and documented. Staff obtained patients’ consent to care and treatment in line with legislation and guidance. They understood their responsibilities under the Mental Capacity Act 2005. We saw evidence the dentists were consistently justifying, grading and reporting on the radiographs they took. The practice had implemented systems to assess, monitor and manage risks to patient and staff safety. This included sharps safety, sepsis awareness and lone working. Dental care records were being stored securely. The practice had a governance system which included policies, protocols and procedures that were accessible to all members of staff and were reviewed on a regular basis.
