People were supported by staff who aimed to promote people’s independence wherever possible. Relatives told us about the progress their loved ones had made over the time they had lived at the home.

People were supported with a range of activities both inside and outside of the home. This included things like trampolining, going for walks and cycling, which supported people’s physical activity and wellbeing. An advocate told us the person they supported was helped to maintain meaningful contact with their family. They also said staff supported the person to be active in a range of areas and was able to be as independent as possible.

The home had a range of areas and facilities. People had their own rooms, which were spacious. Staff told us people had been supported to make choices about the design and colour of decoration in their rooms. There were also a range of communal areas people could choose to use, as well as extensive grounds. Care plans detailed that people should be supported to go shopping for their choice of ingredients and be encouraged to make their own meals with the support of staff. Whilst this was outlined in their care plan, we did not witness any person engaged in doing this and lunch on the first day was prepared communally by staff.

Care plans were detailed and included how people could make their own choices and how they were supported to live their own life. People were able to access the community and engage in activities they enjoyed, including regular contact with family members. Some people frequently visited family members at home whilst others went out for meals with their relatives.
