At our last inspection we rated this key question as good. At this inspection the rating has remained the same.

We found this service caring and we saw staff provided a high level of care, maximised the effectiveness of people’s care and treatment by assessing and reviewing their health, care, well being and communication needs with them. people told us they were treated with dignity and respect. Staff at times worked outside of their contracted hours to ensure that safety was the priority. Staff quickly recognised when people needed urgent help or support and used appropriate tools and technology to assist. People felt they are treated with kindness, compassion and dignity. People felt staff listened to them and communicated with them appropriately, in a way they could understand. Staff were alerted to people’s needs and supported them in the community or within their homes at a time that suited them. This allowed them to maintain their independence, choice and control. Family members and people who knew the patients well were encouraged to be involved with their care. Feedback from family and carers stated they were signposted to resources provided by the community team to ensure ongoing care. The views and voice of people were captured in care records ensuring that the care provided was person-centred.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

People said they were supported by staff, who treated them with dignity, kindness and respect. They were involved with their care and treatment plans and were able to contact the team when needed. Additional appointments were offered if support was required between appointments.

People and their family/friends were happy and felt comfortable to speak to staff if they were unsure about their care. They felt that staff were well trained and provided information in a timely manner.

Staff said they supported people in an open, honest and approachable way, meaning they could quickly recognise when people needed urgent help or support. People’s needs, views, wishes and comfort were a priority and staff quickly anticipated these to avoid any preventable discomfort, concern or distress. Staff were able to provide care and reassurance where needed, while maintaining privacy and dignity. Staff demonstrated a good knowledge of both the safety and responsiveness towards their patients and that of their carers.

We spoke to staff members and read 8 care records that showed how staff engaged with their parents and carers though home and community visits, offering time and patience through meaningful conversations and support sessions.

We spoke to staff and observed plans in place to support the Peoples and carers within local community during the festive period of December. This involved staff working additional hours to provide care and support though charitable organisations for Peoples who were struggling financially.

People were provided with a list of contacts for their community team including nurses, support staff, an allocated duty worker and administrators. They were also provided with contacts for out of hours support services such as The Crisis Team.
